Got to bed about 7AM last night & up again at Noon. Do NOT feel rested and refreshed. A doorbell ring at just before Noon. Some guy dropping off our lawn mower he had been working on. The grass forest is in dire need of its assistance. Couldn’t get back to sleep so cont on the farm stuff. Then off to Hillsboro for an inservice on risk management and fire safety. Just my favorite way to spend the afternoon. Got a Snickers bar out of the deal tho.

Went to pick up some payroll time cards at a new client, but the owner was gone again, will try a 4th time tomorrow. Back home and did some more payrolls and more talks with Dad and the attorney and all kinds of issues to resolve. D is about exhausted with this new LLC. It will be public information Friday so in case you want to know the name I will prob reveal it then. That is….if the attorneys don’t change everything. Getting to be a big headache to get this thing off the ground. Had no idea there would be so many things to resolve and make sure everyone is treated fairly.

Late to Church due to family meetings. George Pinkum ( I think that’s his name) gave a talk on Mount Zion Literature and is from Deer Lodge, TN. Lots of book distributions in S Mexico & Central America and in areas of Africa.

Talked with Harold and he is terribly congested from house dust with the remodelling going on there. I think I may be coming down with a cold also (sigh). Josh & I ate at BK later and heard all about the latest happenings at the sale barn. Also looked at James’s 4H book. Oren’s are going to IN for a wedding. Guess I will be in Josh’s SS class. He’s glad it’s downstairs. Looking forward to it.

Missed a bit EMS call yesterday. A massive head injury was blared publicly over the scanner. Know the address, but not the people there. Lifewatch was there to transport someone by helicopter. Sounds like a bad situation, but nothing said in the Salina Journal.

Well, time for bed and more discussions on the LLC tomorrow and then a 12 hr shift at u know where.

Up at 11AM & got a bunch of things ready to mail, such as a KS sales tax audit which is a new one for me, but not difficult at all. Continued on the farm things and doing EOY transactions and adjustments which is a bit stressful since this is IT, for the last time.

Later dropped off a deposit at Roxbury and mail at the PO & to Hillsboro to cont on that acct and was up to the middle of May by 5:30PM.

Then it was off to Salina for the Farm Bureau annual dinner and meeting at the BiCenter at 6:30PM. A good meal as usual and took 2 steaks since they said we could. I sat at a table all the way into the big banquet room and sat next to a guy I am just a little acquainted with. Then another guy joined us who does lawn and turf care and got his company name and all that since I am thinking of changing from Earthcare doing all the tree fertilizing. Not real happy with them and this guy really seems to want the extra business.

After the meal Larry Hatteberg told stories about interesting people such as Ernie Dittemore from Doniphan County. He lives in a hole in the ground, has not bathed in 25 years….and that is only the beginning of this fascinating story. Also told about dining in China and watching his meal entree hiss in his facee before it was prepared. btw the entrees served are various variety of poisonous and non-poisoness snakes.

THEN…………..the real entertainment started. The guy at my table had a call come in on his cell phone. He answered loudly…..and I hoped this call would end quickly as there were a few annoyed glances aimed at our table. The conversation did NOT end………..it went on and on and on. Then louder and louder as this guy wasn’t able to hear his caller very well. This was happening during the business meeting and elections. I considered making a mad dash for the door, but opted to just look down and not face there entire room looking our way as this gentleman at my table carried on an animated conversation on his cell phone.

Finally it was over…about the time for door prizes to be handed out. VERY glad to get out of that place. Back home and on to the farm stuff for awhile, but my full stomach forced me to take a short nap. Back up and a nice chat with Jacob who told me about his day. Enjoyed the call Jacob!!!Then nonstop farm stuff till daybreak.

Time for bed!!!!!!!!!!!!

August 29, 2006

Slept much of the day away since I got off work quite a bit later than the usual 3AM. Finally up and going by afternoon. A big meeting with the family attorney today at 3:30 to make the final preparations for a new LLC which will commence and become public information Sept 1st. The old Hubert Redden Family Partnership will terminate Aug 31. This is with mixed feelings as this old entity has been a family project for me since 1985 when I took over the tax prep from Farm Management. It was started in 1976 and had a lot of bugs and problems I located & cleaned up. Will have to memorize a new Fed ID number for the new LLC and most of all we need to make sure everything is set up correctly and everyone is treated fairly. Only a few more days to get that done. Need to get the accounting and end-of-year adjustments ready by Friday if possible. Several family meetings are on the schedule until this project is finalized Friday. Think it’s all going OK so far.

Ran into a big downpour of rain east of Salina, but didn’t get much at home. The terraces, draws and cricks were just full of water by Kipp. We’re doing alright with the rain situation at home now, so don’t mind that the storm missed us.

Jacob told me he is almost done with drivers ed. Wish I could have had his driving instructor and training in other aspects of life besides driving. Fun to hear about Chiclets again.

Saw Jim late tonight after he got off from Pizza Hut. So far so good with his new job. He seems to like it OK, EXCEPT for being terrified of the computer. I don’t think it’s going to be as bad as it appears now. He was watching JC, so got in on the scary 1st part, but found the end quite disgusting and troubling. Anyway it was good to hang out with my good buddy again.

Tomorrow will probably be more of the same, so need to get some rest. Talk to you later.

Sunday-Baptism day

August 28, 2006

WOW James!! Thanx for all the comments. Hope you have a good day also.

Went to Church like usual and this is the last Sunday with my precious SS class. John wasn’t there due to a camping trip in CO. The other 3 were there: Ryan, Jacob and James. Also 4 visitors: Jared Shetler, 2 Yutzy boys and a Miller boy from Arlington. Sorry I just can’t remember all your names and esp so since we are going to be praying for you 4 this week.

Will miss my SS guys, in fact I miss them already, but glad they will be in the very capable hands of Tim Miller. It’s been a great year and I’m sure you’ll have another great year with Tim. Keep in touch with the emails and phone calls. And remember……….it’s ALWAYS OK to call mikey :)

Today was baptism day for: Ryan Nisly, David Yutzy, Ida Yutzy, Jewel Yoder & Eunice Yoder. Appreciated all the speeches. Perry Troyer had the SS opening, Oren had the sermon and David Yoder did the baptism assisted by Gary Miller. Most of all, I apprec the invitation by Ryan to sit with his family. This was very special and meant a lot to me. Thanks Ryan!!

Enjoyed the carryin later and getting to see Luke & Virgil again. Then it was off to Hillsboro. Today we only had 1 pt as the other one expired about 6AM Sunday (yes, expired is the correct medical term). He hung on till his daughter arrived from TX about 4AM. Glad she was able to make it in time.

Only 1 very minor ER, so a quiet evening here. Had some good talks with my coworkers and hope we solved all the worlds problems. Well……….at least we tried.

This post is dedicated to all my SS guys, this past year and earlier years. You all have been great. God bless you all! Also God bless those baptized today.

Woke up at Noon and had some roast for dinner. Went over the mail and on to Hillsboro for the rest of the day. Still only 2 pts, but still keep me hopping. Missed out on a lot of excitement on day shift. Housekeeping found a bathroom in a room we THOT was unoccupied, adorned with all kinds of brown decorations. Finally came to the conclusion this mischief was perpetrated by the 2 notorious gremlins: ida know and not me. Wish I could have seen the artwork!!

Had 2 ER’s tonight, but nothing really dramatic or exciting. Just another quiet night here at work and doing a Quickbooks file on my laptop when not doing other duties of the job.

Went on a McDonalds run (believe it or not) cause my 2 coworkers aren’t allowed to leave the premises. I can if I clock out for meal break. I was smart and just got myself a choc shake. The other offending food items were in a paper sack and by the time I got back to the hospital the grease was starting to leak thru the sack. A qtr pounder had fallen out of its container along with some greasy fries. And we’re supposed to eat that stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Managed to juggle 3 pops and my shake on the flimsy holder while making every attempt not to dump what seemed like 3 gallons of pop all over myself and the car seat. My prayers were answered and made it back safely with everything intact.

Out early tonight at midnight and on home. A small correction…..the gas station at Canton is now a Fleming Convenience store with Cenex gas ( at least I think that’s how it is). Gas is now at a pleasant $2.759. Wish I had to fill up tonight, but still have a half tank of gas.

Had another good chat with Ryan and said his speech is all ready for his baptism tomorrow. God’s blessings on you Ryan!!! And on all the others :)

Time for bed so will say goodnight

August 26, 2006

Got up at Noon & went to the PO to mail a bunch of letters & some needed to be weighed, etc. Back to Hillsboro to cont on the big new client file there. The lady I’m working with is catching on quite well….AND………..she’s picky and careful and wants to do it right. Quite a refreshing change from other occasions. Yes, I am VERY picky with accounting programs. There are just a lot of transactions to go over. It seems like it’s going slower and slower all the time…like a download that’s locking up and going slower and slower all the time and will never finish. Finally to the middle of April after a 10 hr day there.

This business is in the same building I rented an upstairs apartment in during the winter of 1985 & 86. The winter of several feet of snow and several blizzards. It’s all been gutted and redone, so it doesn’t look a bit like it did when I lved there. It used to be very cold and drafty and I had a sore throat for at least 2 months while I was there. YUCK!!

Anyway, just a trip down memory lane. Walked around the block a few times to stretch my legs and aching back. Finally left at 1:30AM and much to my joy I was NOT questioned by any cops. I know most of the cops in Hillsboro, but not all of them. Just not in the mood to explain why I’m there at such a time, but the owners said to come whenever I want, whatever it takes to get this stuff done.

A nice call from Luke about 5PM while they were in Wichita and on the way to Reno Co. Having a party at Lavernes. Let’s see……….are Laverne and Rebecca there this weekend????hmmmmmmmmm. Just wondering. Good to chat again Luke. Call again :) I considered stopping by, but with things getting more behind as the hours passed, it just didn’t seem like a wise thing to do. Even had some heavy rain there and some tornadoes about 10 miles W of our place. Didn’t hear of any significant damage. At least not yet.

Ate supper in Durham and saw little Blake there with his mother & brothers. He’s alwasy such a cheerful little guy and stopped by my table to say hello. Getting along great with his metal leg and can even run now!!! He turned age 3 in March of this year.

Guess I’ll close for now. Have fun at Lavernes, but stay out of trouble…….whoever is there   :)

Happy Birthday Matthew!!!! (for Friday)

Slept till Noon today and had some chicken and fried okra for dinner. YUM!! Made some tax phone calls and did some efile things such as getting signature sheets ready to mail after their acks came back-Form 8453. The Schwan guy came and got some more ice cream. Got a deposit ready for Roxbury Bank. Also got the monthly sales tax acct done today. Due Friday, so a day early on that one :)

Then to Hillsboro and 2 pts here today. A bit whiny, but I’ve certainly had worse days. Glad they’re all asleep now. Doing some Quickbooks on another client file on my laptop here as long as they are all quiet and asleep. Missed a staff meeting I should have come to at 1:30PM. Not a terrible thing, but just would have been better to come. Missed staff meetings can affect our yearly evaluations.

No ER’s tonight and has been very quiet and uneventful, EXCEPT for a very welcome call from Ryan. Had another good ol chat. Baptism is this Sunday.

Guess I’ll close for now. c u all later.

Wednesday

August 24, 2006

Just got home a short while ago. Another big day. Spent most of it finishing up a big tax return and really felt like an accomplishment when it was FINALLY done. Lots of research on this one which takes an enormous amt of time. Ran off a P&L to drop off in Hillsboro. Stopped in Roxbury to mail some stuff & saw Richard Thayers on their way to Church. I went the ‘wrong’ way which probably raised some questions for them, but got that all cleared up later tonight. To Hillsboro to drop off the P&L & a letter which needs a check right away. Then to Walton to see someone & then on to Buhler for some sales tax info.

Earlier I was stopped at the Canton corner & watched the Pantry + sign come down cause it is now a Cenex place & I spose they will put up another sign later. Highway construction caused the delay.

Finally to Church a bit after 8PM. Tonight was a report by the people who went to China. I came in during Daniel’s talk & then heard from Marietta & Frieda. Prayer time & Joel showed some slides. Dropped off the tax return after Church.

Josh Y told me he is working at Pretty Prairie with Ernest on a roofing job, said it was like the old days.

Had a funnel cake at IHOP with strawberries and whipped topping. I still prefer the old fashioned funnel cake with powdered sugar, but this variation was still OK. Tried raspberry ice tea, but think I’ll stick with raspberry lemonade in the future.

Stopped in Mac on my way home to see my buddy Jim. He just got a job at Pizza Hut at the carryout place as a cook and started tonight. VERY glad this job came along, so spent some time celebrating this happy event. His mother died of brain cancer in 1998 and we compared notes on her case with Uncle Warrens. We went shopping at WalMart at 2AM. It’s nice and peaceful then. AND I need to get used to early AM hours since I have backslidden and gone to bed relatively early the past 2 days. Hope I’m back on track. Better be, since tomorrow is another 3P-3A shift.

Till next time,

August 23, 2006

Another full day of Quickbooks, so probably nothing of great interest to you. Continued on the next tax return & hope to have it done tomorrow. Think I have all the questions answered and ready for the final go thru. Made a few phone calls for business purposes. Then to Hillsboro to continue teaching someone how to use Quickbooks and spent most of the day on posting received payments. Going well there. Also talked to another lady about picking up bank statements for a new Quickbooks account and payroll. Lots of employees there. Also talked to the guy mentioned last night and some more developments there.

Then home about 6PM and a call from a client to clear up a misunderstanding about what I will do and what their employee will do with their bookkeeping. Got that all cleared up and everything’s great.

More tax stuff tonight which brings me to now. This must be extremely uninteresting to you, but has been a VERY full day here and will probably be going to bed soon with a splitting headache I’ve had all day long. Some stress, but most of all going basically quite well.

Monday

August 22, 2006

A typical busy day here. Dropped off a tax return for a bank teller & did that all at the drive thru window. Don’t think that happens very often. Saw one of my aunts at the mall where I wasted some time between stops and had a quick chat. Then off to Hillsboro to see one of my corporation people. Unfortunately he is planning to shut things down. We just got that set up a couple years ago and things just seemed to go backwards from then on. Considering it is 3 times as difficult to close a corporation as it is to form one…………….guess that’s life. The owner is a nice young guy & will miss doing payroll with him. Not sure what his plans are for now.

Another cool and cloudy day. Surprised it isn’t muddier with all the rain we’ve had recently. Guess it all soaked in, which is nice.

Starting another big tax return with multiple partnerships and mergers. Required a large download of several pages of merger tax consequence information. Guess how long THAT took!!!

Time is marching on and need to get to bed.
