Finished another tax return today, so now there are 8 left to go till Oct 16. Woke up with a cold, so took it easy and didn’t overdo by any means. Heard about the school violence in Colorado. Just glad it didn’t happen at Edison, CO. Sorry to hear about the fatalities.

I did read with interest about the longhorn cattle drive this weekend which will end in Ellsworth on Douglas Street. Lots of high profile bankers and stock brokers from all over the country paid $1000 each  to participate. Wonder if they really knew what they were getting themselves into. The chuck wagon meals include beef tips, cowboy hash browns and whistle berries (hmmmmm………wonder what THOSE are????). Anyway, I might decide to check it out tomorrow.

Went to the Durham German buffet and stuffed myself as usual. Back home and starting on another tax return. Now, it’s time for bed. Need to make several phone calls tomorrow for tax info.

Have a great weekend!

Got up about Noon today since I got to bed so late last night. Didn’t really sleep very well either and not sure why. Did a couple payrolls today and left for work at Hillsboro.

We had quite a few ER’s that turned into admissions, so our work was cut out for us. Later in the evening he had a football casualty come in……flag football. I had no idea this was such a hazardous sport. Anyway we got that all taken care of and all the admissions. Then when that quieted down I put some admission packets together. Just in the mood to get that kind of thing done. Now my feet hurt, but feel like it’s been a productive day.

A very ordinary routine day. Ohhh….btw the end of this month marks my 27th anniversary of working at HCMC. Still have a clean record of never calling in sick. At least….not yet.

Tomorrow promises to be an ordinary day of tax work. So with that, I will go to bed.

Au revoir!!

Well, true to my predictions, I was very tired when I got up at 6AM to make a phone call to someone in Maryland. It was quick and proved very helpful and got another tax return finished and delivered today. Went back to bed & tried to sleep till 9:15 when I had to get up again and go to a staff meeting in Hillsboro to sign up for our new health insurance. That lasted 45 minutes. Back home and actually finished the above mentioned tax return and delivered it to Longford and was back by 3PM to do payroll at TRG.

Then it was off to Church for a counsel meeting for Communion. I had a nice short visit with Amos which was encouraging. Afterwards I heard about all the school work various ones have at Pilgrim. Now if you only had to work as hard as I did when I was in school……………..

Later, Josh & Willard & I went to the new Arby’s by Lone Star. Surprised it was still open as late as it was. I had an exotic ham and swiss sandwich, however it was poisoned with horseradish. Went down mostly OK, but am in the midst of indigestion several hours later. Still, it was a delicious sandwich.

Heard things were getting pretty wild in MP, so stopped in to see Jim and those reports were not exagerated. Everything is fine now. And now it will be even finer since I get to sleep now. Set my alarm for 9AM to pray for Jacob’s oral report.

Heard from Rebecca and their volleyball team has had 5 wins now!!! Way to go girls!!!

Got a good start on 3 of the remaining tax returns today. In fact, 2 are almost done!! Went to Salina to drop off some tax return copies at a bank, mailed an 8453 signature sheet at the Post Office, then headed for Longford to see a tax client. Enjoy the countryside in that area and is like stepping back in time.

The construction on I-70 between Solomon and Abilene is almost done & now they’re going to work on the stretch between Solomon and Niles Exit. Wonder if it will ever be finished. Like the nice concrete roads when they are done. Prefer that to asphalt.

Wheat drilling definitely in full swing here. Suppose my friends at Miller Seed are swamped with work now. Have fun!!

Been driving all over the place today & now I need to make a phone call to Maryland tomorrow at 6AM to finish one of these TF. Not sure if I should stay up all night or go to bed. I’m not a bit tired now, but sure will be at 6AM. Need to go to another staff mtg at Hillsboro to sign up for the new health insurance. Back to Longford to drop off a tax return at 1PM. Then payroll at TRG and then to Church for the Communion Council meeting. Maybe I SHOULD go to bed now.

Anyway, c u all later.

Had a good sleep again last night, but did NOT get to bed in an early fashion. SOOOOOOOOOO……….that should tell you what time I got up today :( Went to a staff meeting at the hospital, mandatory. End of the fiscal year, so that always makes us wonder what kind of news is coming. Not to worry, our facility had a good year, so that means the merit pay raise system is back on again. Also, we are changing health insurance since the premiums would go up 40% with the old provider. Prob shouldn’t mention the new provider name, but think it will be a good fit for us.

Saw all kinds of people drilling wheat on the way to staff meeting. In fact I saw so many, I lost count. And right on time as Sept 25 is the day this is supposed to start. Don’t know who came up with that date, but is very traditional in these parts. Planting conditions are PERFECT, but don’t know about the depth of soil moisture. Will worry about that later, maybe not, as it won’t do any good. People are cheerful tho.

Hospice was out to see Uncle Warren today. I went over to see him today and he isn’t so worked up about not being able to communicate anymore. He was eating his meal and seemed quite content. Withdrawing, but in a way kind of a relief. I think he was worried about all the business decisions going on, but now is assured everything is going to be OK and can relax now. It’s getting hard for him to walk and is having pain, according to facial expressions. Plz pray he can cope and for his family as it is SOOOO hard on them.

Getting organized to get the last 10 TF done. Might go to Longford tomorrow to hunt one of these people down. Always enjoy going to that area. A very scenic ride there.

Good to hear from you Luke!!! Sounds like you’re a busy young man with all the things you planted. I’m sure they will all come up fine and provide happy grazing times for all!!! :)

O, I need to make copies of tax returns for various banks and all, so need to get that done before I go to sleep tonight. Hope to get those all delivered tomorrow also.

Au revoir to all my good friends and family!!

Got off work last night at 11PM & made it home and to bed in record time. Nice to go to Church rested on my work weekend for a change. Heard about Marvin Yutzy’s family moving into the community soon. Gary had the sermon on the riches of God’s goodness (at least that’s the title I came up with). Ella had a package from Mable who used to work at Menn Manor which I delivered to Velma her friend at Hillsboro. Mable has been in Great Britain recently & is originally from Sri Lanka. There could be a lot more said about this situation, but will refrain for now.

Stopped by my cuz Stephen’s place to pick up a tax form and statement that’s due tomorrow. He lives S of Buhler now. That will be processed after midnight (just in case you’re concerned). Also saw a large cotton field just N of the I-135 K61 intersection which I hadn’t noticed before. It’s turning white now which is what caught my eye. Seems like there’s more and more cotton being grown in KS all the time.

A very ordinary day at work and only 1 ER and few interruptions (rare at my place of employment). Lots of discussions with my coworkers about current events, etc.

Still at work for about 2 more hours, so will sign off for now.

Stayed up late printing off a tax return last night & some other finishing touches and didn’t get to bed till 6AM, so slept till 1PM, but had quite a few interruptions. Had a brief shower about 3AM last night, but not very wet here. Cloudy & dry and cool & just perfect for being outside.

Worked at the hospital today and the census has increased 100% from 2 to 4 pts. Strangely it was nice to be busy there again and it was a fun kind of busy, so I had a good day. Still had time to read a couple books between call lights & other duties. Only 1 minor ER, so the RN’s were pleased.

A very ordinary day and that is just the kind I like so will close with that for now.

Had a typical day and still working on a very difficult tax return. Lots of issues that don’t have a definite answer. Finally finished with 10 left to go. I think this should be the end of these difficult tax returns with perplexing issues that require so much research.

Keep hearing about the long distance telephone tax refund for next year. That should be fun to tackle. One questionable source says this tax dates back to the 1800’s. About time to move on.

Went to Moundridge to eat at the Friday night German buffet. Got there a bit late (surprise) and wouldn’t you know, Vern (the owner) made a plate of fried potatoes and 2 verenika (verenikas, vereniki???) just for me. Felt pretty special. One time I saw Oren & Jo there last spring who were celebrating a BD or anniversary.

Also had some tense moments as I changed my telephone plan to unlimited calling for $20 about 2 weeks ago. Today I rec a letter that I need to change my plan since I am using this line for long distance internet connections. They didn’t tell me that was not allowed when I changed, but now I was moved to a new plan which allows internet.  Seems like I remember hearing about that awhile ago, but forgot all about it. Anyway, I am all compliant now and still OK with the fee.

Still waiting to hear how the girls did with they volleyball games in CO.

Woke up at 10AM to a cool cloudy blustery day. Very windy also. Had just a bit of moisture. I found this weather to be enjoyable for a change. Almost felt like winter. Got to work early and found out we only have 2 pts, so that meant a slow relaxing day.

Heard about a bunch of tornadoes today. One at Russell caused some damage, but no one was injured. Another one was headed for Marion County, but really didn’t materialize. Not in the mood to evacuate pts, so that was a relief. No, it wouldn’t be much trouble to put 2 people in the hall, but we would have had to evacuate all the nursing home people and that would be a mess during meal time. Reminded me of the Jan 1st fire.

Front page news in the Salina Journal is about the teacher at Salina South High who was testing blood on her students and using the same lancet on each person. Now she’s suspended with pay and you can only imagine what some others think should be done. This MIGHT have been acceptable 50 years ago, but certainly not now. What a mess!!

The attorney approved all the changes and printed out a final operating agreement for the new LLC. And today…..we received the official notice from IRS on the new tax ID number. That was cause for much celebration, at least for me!!   :)

Hope to finish another tax return tomorrow and then there are 10 to go before Oct 15. Guess I won’t be getting bored any time soon.

Heard about a fascinating recent oral report at Pilgrim High. Don’t know why this elicited so much laughter??? All the best on your chapel speech tomorrow Ryan. I’ll be praying for you.

Till next time

Today was a day of family meetings and making decisions that will affect us for the rest of our lives. We had the farm management guy here from 10AM to 1PM and think it all went well for the most part. He had a bit of a different idea for the ownership divisions, but think I understand where he’s coming from and glad we’re using a non-biased person’s decision for the divisions.

Cont on the next tax return all day and hope to have it ready by Friday. Really not much else to say other than going to Cedar Crest for a joint service with Val Yoder? telling about IGO which is a mission activity in Asia & Marvin Miller is involved with them.

Went to Oren’s for snacks later & then stopped by to see Jim. Still looking for another job, but is having a lot of pain with his ankle. Still trying to get the paperwork done for him to see a specialist at Wichita Clinic. So much red tape to go thru.

Saw a lot of lightning in the distance on the way home & wouldn’t mind another rain storm. Talk to you later.
